A Holy Spirit of Action
I’ve been thinking lately about the Holy Spirit. A complex and powerful, yet simple Spirit. Depending on your background you will have different opinions on the Holy Spirit and how it works in the lives of Christians today. But when we look at the Holy Spirit in the scriptures there are consistencies which can be clearly seen and agreed upon.
The Holy Spirit is a Spirit of Action! Think about it. Every time we see the Spirit of the God we see action, we see lives that reflect Jesus Christ. I love to read about Christ’s last few commands before he left this earth. He told the disciples in Luke 24:47
“Repentance for forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”
We see in Acts 1:8 that He commanded them to
“be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth”
But what was it that He told them to wait for? What was it that Christ felt the disciples couldn’t live without?
It was the Holy Spirit!
You can almost picture it. The disciples are really excited about Christ conquering death, and they eagerly have the desire to proclaim the gospel at the top of their lungs. But Jesus tells them in Luke 24:49
“I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with the power from on high”
He tells them to wait? The disciples are ready to go! and yet Jesus Christ tells them to wait in the city. Why? We later see in in Acts that the Holy Spirit comes down and moves in hearts of the disciples. This was essential to the success of their ministries. The Holy Spirit came down, and the disciples launched out, proclaiming the Gospel to “Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and even the remotest part of the earth”.
Today we have youth who long for what we have come to term “Spirit Lead” worship in their churches. Many churches today have several services. One geared toward young people and one toward an older, more traditional crowd. The younger service usually incorporates more modern music with a faster beat and instead of having 6-7 verses like the hymns of the generation before us, our songs have 2-3 verses which we sometimes sing 10-15 in a row.
Let me clarify that I don’t believe there’s anything inherently wrong with today’s music. But what does it really mean to have “Spirit Lead” worship? Well to me, it means that after worshiping our Lord and King we are spurred to take action! To proclaim the gospel! To shout the truth we know in our hearts! The Holy Spirit is not a weekly emotion that someone experiences when singing several verses of a song over and over again. It’s the presence of God manifested in our daily lives as we become more and more like Christ!
This is my challenge to you today! The Holy Spirit doesn’t sit idly by and watch the world decay around it. We’ve no time to waste! Submit yourself to Christ and allow Him to be Lord of your life!

Great post Luke! Our life should definitely be one of action, but without the Holy Spirit, our action cannot be effective. Thanks for the challenge!
Thanks Luke for a great challenge! You’re an inspiration to me!
