Put on Your New Life

Isn’t it amazing how easy it is for you and I to forget about our dependency on Christ and shift into a mindset of dependency on the world?

Colossians 3 talks a lot about putting on the the new self. A self renewed by God and being conformed into the image of Christ.

you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him. Colossians 3:9b-10

It’s a tall order, luckily one you don’t have to fill. Many of us would rather pull ourselves up and start working on this whole “renewal process” but what we must realize is the renewing of our heart and mind can only be accomplished through the work of Christ.

Taking control of the situation is something I’m pretty good at. My personality comes with both strengths and weaknesses though. When I think about what it took to rescue me from sin it wasn’t through any action of my own. No matter how much I was determined to take control of the situation it wasn’t going to get me anywhere.

We must submit ourselves to the Lord and allow Him to do the renewing. In Christ alone our hope is found.

Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Colossians 3:2-4
